"Oops we did it again. 35 contemporary artists from 11 countries banging out jams of the highest caliber. Last year we fretted over taxonomy, but thankfully we've settled into our genres, so please enjoy this Dirt Pop/Sugar Metal compilation. I cannot thank all the bands enough for being a part of this comp. I implore you to seek them all out on bandcamp. Except Kiddo, they're mysterious right now, which is cool. We also just wanted to take a moment to say that as a label, we've spent the last decade trying to carve out our place in a certain scene that has become increasingly full of people who are OK with actively ignoring the plight of marginalized people in this world. It's 2021, the label that first made me really actually think about and confront racism is actively distributing a new lp with transphobic lyrics. Certain misogynists, racists, homophobes, and cop supporters are worshiped in this scene because they wrote some good songs a quarter of a century ago. When these and other issues are brought up online in groups dedicated to the music I have loved all my life, "lighten up" is a typical response. The scene Bloated Kat has tried to be a part of is full of "punks" who are incapable of any sort of reflection and lack the ability to empathize with or even acknowledge the struggles of people of people who aren't straight and white like them. Fuck that, we're out. We're our own scene now. Welcome to the Dirt Pop scene. Everyone is welcome and equal here. We're too busy with killer hooks to have any space for bigotry and ignorance. Bloated Kat is 100% a queer, feminist label that is vehemently anti-cop, anti-racist, and very much anti-excuses for shitty behavior. If you find any of the ideas expressed here to be even slightly cringe, fuck off and enjoy the pop punk scene. This isn't for you. If this resonates with you, we hope these songs make you feel like you're home. We love you." Bloated Kat Records.
